“Place Your Shoulder Blades In Your Back Pocket”
Setting up for the deadlift
The intent of this cue is to communicate to the athlete to keep their shoulders TOGETHER and DOWN during the set up of the lift.
When the shoulder blades are set together and down, it helps place the following:
– Upper back is tight and set
– Chest is tall (which in turn, prevents the shoulders from rounding)
– Hips are automatically in a much more powerful position to assist in the lift
